about

Kyoto Jazz Sextet's debut album "Mission" is a classic, released on the legendary Blue Note label it features seven songs selected from 1963 to 1966 to reflect of the sound of Blue Note whilst adding a contemporary essence. In addition to these jazz cover songs another song covered on the album is Kyoto Jazz Massive's 'Eclispe', which became a worldwide club hit when released from the German label ' Compost records'. The acclaimed saxophonist Kikuchi Naruyoshi is a guest musician on 'Eclispe and 'Speak No Evil.'

The concept of this album is the creation of 21st century jazz using acoustic instruments.
The album recordings were made 'organically'- the musical instruments were vintage, mastering and editing used analog methods, and although the band used sampling, looping, mash - up and improvisation it was all done by the musicians themselves without digital input.
Using these techniques Kyoto Jazz Sextet created jazz that did not exist in 60s by absorpting influence from legends such as Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Art Ensamble Of Chicago, Harry Whitaker, Dee Dee Bridgewater and being impacted by contemporary artists like Flying Lotus, Theo Parrish, Gregory Porter, Go Go Penguin and Otis Brown III.
